Children’s Mercy Hospital and Clinics this fall will open a health and wellness center at Crown Center for its more than 6,000 employees, their spouses and domestic partners.
The wellness center, which will be in the former UMB Bank space at 2401 Grand Blvd., will be managed by Cerner Corp., the North Kansas City-based health care information technology company, the hospital said Friday.
Cerner now manages more than 30 on-site health centers nationwide, but this is the first time the company has operated an on-site wellness center for a health care provider. Earlier this week, Hallmark Cards Inc. said it will team with Cerner on a health care program for the greeting card company’s employees and family members at its Liberty distribution center.
The 15,000-square-foot Children’s Mercy facility, about a block from the hospital’s main campus, will be staffed by board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, a registered nurse and a pharmacy staff. The health center will offer primary and urgent care along with laboratory and pharmacy services Monday through Saturday.
Children’s Mercy said the facility is being designed so the medical staff will not only treat immediate issues but will perform routine lab work and help employees manage chronic health conditions, such as diabetes.
“The Employee Wellness Center is a valuable investment in our employees,” Randall O’Donnell, president and chief executive of Children’s Mercy, said in a statement. “This is a great option to ensure they have convenient access to quality, affordable health care.”
