“Safety net” grants from the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City are awarded each year to help nonprofits that provide health services to uninsured and underinsured people in the metro area.

The foundation on Wednesday announced $4.25 million in safety net grants, distributed among 29 organizations. Grants ranged from about $34,000 to $365,000 each.

The foundation’s safety net grants are one of three major funding rounds it makes each year. Since it began grantmaking in 2005, the foundation has given $57 million in safety net grants and nearly $240 million in total grants designed to improve health services in the Kansas City area.
