Apple Country Club Plaza — not ‘store’ — aims to be a gathering place

The new Apple Country Club Plaza store is designed to be a gathering place that will draw foot traffic throughout the day.

And don’t call them Apple Stores anymore; Apple has dropped the word “store” and instead added a location to its store names.

New features introduced in the Plaza location at 227 Nichols Road include:

▪ The Avenue, inspired by retail window displays that change throughout the season. It runs along the back wall and showcases such items as headphones, apps, iPhone cases and photography accessories.

▪ The Forum, a gathering space centered around a 6K video wall on the east side of the store.

Apple Country Club Plaza also will continue to offer services, including daily workshops and youth programs.

Apple first opened on the Plaza in 2004. It closed its store at 4712 Broadway on Friday and reopened Saturday in a glass-fronted space in the new Plaza 211, formerly Halls Plaza. The Plaza hasn’t commented on plans for the Broadway location.

Apple has 270 stores in the U.S. and 485 around the world. The new features have been rolled out in about 30 of its stores worldwide.
