A new champagne bar called Ça Va,, plans to open by mid-December in Westport.
“It’s a common check-in in France. Like we say ‘How ya doing?’” said Howard Hanna, a partner in Ça Va and executive chef and co-owner of the Rieger Hotel Grill Exchange in the Crossroads Arts District.
Hanna is opening Ça Va (pronounced sah vah) with Justin Norcross, who will be the general manager, and Jim Coley, wine director of Gomer’s Fine Wines and Spirits in midtown.
“I’m excited to bring a lot of interesting sparkling wines to Kansas City,” Coley said.
Ça Va will specialize in champagne cocktails, along with boutique wines from France, Italy, Spain and the United States.
Ça Va also will have a full bar. Hanna is still working on the menu, but it will include Missouri caviar.
Ça Va is taking a space at 4149 Pennsylvania Ave. Its neighbors will include Port Fonda and Julep, a new bar that will specialize in whiskey cocktails.
The decor will feature floors made of 100-year-old wood, exposed brick walls and tin ceilings with a grapevine motif.
“It is only 740 square feet, so it will be really intimate,” Hanna said. “But we’ll add a patio in the spring that will double the seating.”Quick bite
The owner of Prairie Village’s Cafe Provence has opened a sister operation in The Village shopping center.
French Market, at 6947 Tomahawk Road, offers house-made dressings, chutneys, aioli, quiche, pates, sauces, soups and stews, as well as some imported French products, such as linens and tableware. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
