Rick and Kristi Ghilardi and Greg Hirleman, owners of the Grand Street Cafe just east of the Country Club Plaza, are expanding with a new Lenexa location.
The 7,753-square-foot restaurant is scheduled to open in November in Lenexa City Center East, 8815 Renner Blvd. It will have a similar menu and decor as the original Grand Street Cafe, which was founded just over two decades ago. The new restaurant will take nearly half of the first floor of the building housing B.E. Smith, one of the nation’s largest executive search firms.

Copaken Brooks is the developer of another corner of the intersection called City Center Lenexa. It plans a new 20,000-square-foot mixed-use building called 89 Renner@ City Center Lenexa. Perceptive Software will use the second floor for a conference center. The first floor will be for restaurant and retail.
Construction of that building is scheduled to begin Aug. 1, and the building will be ready for occupancy in June 2014.
• Moe’s Southwest Grill has signed a development deal to bring 30 new restaurants to Missouri.
The new franchisee, Jeff Offutt of Columbia, said he will first move into smaller but still well-populated cities such as Columbia, Jefferson City and Springfield through 2015. In the “second wave” of openings, he will focus on Kansas City and St. Louis. Each location will have about 25 employees.
Offutt has been in the restaurant franchise business for 18 years and owns multiple Subway and Five Guys Burgers and Fries in mid and southern Missouri.
“I do have a broker looking. If I find the right real estate in Kansas City or St. Louis, I will hop on it,” Offutt said. “We are going to be very patient so we don’t open in a mediocre location.”
Moe’s Southwest Grill has a fast-casual theme focusing on customizable Southwestern cuisine.
