Crown Center’s Function Junction moving, expanding

ALLISON LONG

Function Junction, a locally owned kitchen and housewares retailer, will relocate in Crown Center to make way for the new Halls department store.

Function Junction, now on the third floor of the Crown Center Shops, will move to the second floor, taking a space formerly occupied by Waldenbooks, as well as a space currently occupied by Gatos Cat Boutique. Function Junction will continue to operate at its current location until the new location opens in April 2014.

Hall’s recently announced plans to expand and move its Crown Center store, taking space on the third floor of the shopping center.

The new Function Junction store will carry new - and expanded - product lines. So starting in January, it will have a sale on its current stock of more than 30,000 items, up to 70 percent off on some pieces.

Function Junction, an exclusive tenant to the Crown Center Shops, also plans to enhance its culinary studio at the new location - more product demonstrations and other culinary events.

Gatos Cat Boutique, which has been in the center since mid-2005, said its lease expires at the end of the year and it is in discussions about its future status at Crown Center.

"There are so many other stores and reconfiguring that has to be done - a lot of retailers competing for a lot smaller space," said Wanda Kelsey-Mendez, co-owner of Gatos with her husband. "But there's been a cat boutique in Crown Center for about forty years. We have a lot of regional customers, as well local customers."
