A northeast Kansas sports apparel and gift shop will expand into Wichita in February.
Kansas Sampler, which stocks items such as state-themed gifts and the latest merchandise for regional colleges and pro sports teams, will open Feb. 1 in a 23,000-square-foot store at 3053 N. Rock Road, formerly the home of Jacob Liquor Exchange.
Company CEO Aaron Liebert said the growing Wichita sports market "is a perfect fit for what we do.
"We're heavily sports, because that's what people are most passionate about in Kansas," Liebert said. "Not a lot of states are as passionate about sports as Kansans. We've had requests from our customers for years to open in Wichita, and this is a good fit and a good spot."

Plans call for a full line of KU, Kansas State and Wichita State sports items, along with the Kansas City Chiefs, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State goods. Kansas-themed items like the Wizard of Oz and sunflowers will be in stock as well.
The company operates stores in Lenexa, Lawrence, Overland Park, Mission, Topeka, Leawood, Olathe and Kansas City, Mo.
In addition, it operates an online sales store at www.kansassampler.com.
Hiring will begin in January for 25 full- and part-time positions, Liebert said.
Don Ablah of Classic Real Estate represented the landlord in the deal.
"They're really good people and a really good business," Ablah said. "I think they're going to do very well."
