The morning calm is broken, stirred
By rapping of determined bird
Who now, mistaking house for tree,
Has sparked a noisy rapping spree
By hitting downspout or a gutter
(A noise that makes the humans mutter.)
How odd — to try to drill through metal;
Yes, cause a headache, that I bet’ll
Last all day. The bird, unruffled,
Awakens all the block kerfuffled.
So if in morning light you hear
Metallic clanging loud and near
And bird with dinged-up bill you spy —
It’s fair to say that you’ll know why.
