Dog in the sun

A dog is contented

till daylight is done,

Who happily slumbers

stretched out in the sun.

A sound, though, arises —

a chirping of bird,

Or car door that’s

slamming off distant,

yet heard.

An eyebrow now quivers,

the earflaps now perk;

The groggy head stirring

with barely a jerk…

Decision: To rise

and to bark? Let it pass;

The heavy head rolling

right back in the grass.

A lesson it teaches,

this dog in the sun:

The sweating of small

stuff is foolish, bar none!
