Jason D. Heap, executive director for United Coalition of Reason in Washington, D.C., will speak Sunday at a Kansas City Oasis gathering.

Heap is a humanist celebrant and contributor to TheHumanist.Com, and he gives regular volunteer time to chaplaincy work with student organizations at American and British universities.

A former Christian minister, Heap has applied to become the first humanist-endorsed chaplain in the history of the U.S. armed forces. Through his work with UnitedCoR, Heap is involved with more than 80 coalitions.

Heap will speak at 10:30 a.m. at Tony Aguirre Community Center, 2050 West Pennway. Child care will be provided. The event is open to the public.

Kansas City Oasis is a destination for nontheistic (atheist, agnostic, skeptic, humanist) people who want to be part of a social network.
