Is it a National Donut Day or National Doughnut Day?
Who cares? You can get a free donut/doughnut today. I’m going to go with doughnut for the rest of this blog piece, only because it’s officially the style used by the Associated Press.
National Doughnut Day is the first Friday in June and the story goes that it started in 1938 by the Salvation Army to honor women who served them to soldiers World War I.

Here is where you can find them for free:
LaMar’s Donuts is giving away one free doughnut Friday, but you’ll need to go to their website to print a Golden Ticket. As it did a year ago, LaMar’s is partnering with The Salvation Army to fight childhood hunger. You can donate here.
Dunkin’ Donuts is offering a free classic doughnut (well, except for Fancies, Squares and Croissant Donuts, according to the company) when a customer buys a beverage. The offer is good all day Friday (while supplies last).
Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut of any variety. There is no purchase necessary. Oddly, this excludes Connecticut.
