Recently on my Instagram account, I shared a step-by-step look at how I make flan. Here’s a glance at how it went; let me know if you decide to try it yourself!

Step 1: 1 cup sugar and 1/4 cup water into a saucepan with lid on for 2 minutes on high heat.

To bake: Pour boiling water around the side of the flan pan to create a bain de marie. This will allow the custard to cook evenly. Carefully place flan in oven and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Test with a toothpick in center and continue baking up to 10 minutes more or until center still jiggles but toothpick comes out clean.

The finished flan: Allow flan to cool completely and chill in fridge for several hours or overnight. To unmold, slip a table knife around the edges, place a serving plate on top then flip, allowing the flan and caramelized sugar syrup to transfer to the serving dish. (You may want to do this step over the sink.)
