Generally, summer seasonal beers are light and easy-drinking, with relatively low amounts of alcohol and hops.
The latest release from Mother’s Brewing Company pretty much shatters that summer beer mold. The Springfield, Mo. brewery just unleashed a hop-heavy beer called Super Doozy! on Kansas City. The double IPA is dry-hopped with lots of Citra hops, which lend a bright, clean flavor, and aged in French oak barrels for a touch of sweetness.
Super Doozy! is 9 percent alcohol by volume — more than twice the alcohol content of Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat — and is basically a hopped-up, barrel-aged version of Mother’s Doozy! double IPA.
According to the Springfield brewery, Super Doozy! will be available for a limited time in 22-ounce bottles at select liquor and grocery stores and on draft at select bars and restaurants in Kansas City. When it’s gone, it’s gone — at least, until summer 2015.
In other beer release news, Boulevard’s cult classic Two Jokers Double-Wit beer came out last week in KC.
