Cheers to Bier Station — the Kansas City bar made Draft magazine’s list of Top 100 American Beer Bars for the second year in a row.
Bier Station, at 120 E. Gregory Blvd., was the only local bar to make Draft’s 2015 list. The Waldo bar boasts 28 rotating taps, an indoor beer garden and a menu of foods that pair perfectly with brews (think pretzels, charcuterie and cheese plates, and gourmet brats). Bier Station also has coolers stocked with hundreds of packaged beers — everything from easy-drinking lagers to experimental sours — that customers can drink at the bar or take home.
Don’t know the difference between a pilsner and an IPA? Bier Station is a good place to learn about craft beer. Bartenders call themselves “beer enthusiasts” and can help newbies find their favorite brew. The bar also teams up with breweries from near and far for tastings and special events.
On Monday, Bier Station hosted a launch party for Torn Label, Kansas City’s newest brewery. From 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday, Minnesota-based Summit Brewing Co. will tap into a firkin of Unchained Harvest Fresh IPA and kegs of Frost Line Rye, Nitro Oatmeal Stout and Pilsener.
Looking further out, Green Flash Brewing Co. from San Diego, Calif., will be at Bier Station on Jan. 20 with a firkin of Double Stout brewed with serrano chili peppers, cinnamon and cocoa nibs.
