Two Matchbox bar and grills for Southwest Boulevard?
The Matchbox Bar & Grill opened three years ago at 2853 Southwest Blvd.
Beth Adams had worked as one of Matchbox’s bartenders for a couple of years. When the lease was up for renewal recently, she offered to buy the bar and grill from the owners. But Matchbox closed when a deal couldn’t be worked out for a new lease with the landlord, she said.
Now she has reopened the operation as Matchbox Bar and Grill, just down the block at 2934 Southwest Blvd., a site that also offers more parking.
The new Matchbox, which is now open daily, has the same menu, including burgers, tenderloins, Reuben sandwiches and tacos, as well as lunch and dinner specials. New menu items include Southwest Boulevard egg rolls, French dip sandwiches and Philly club sandwiches. It has a shrimp dinner special on Fridays and a steak dinner special on Saturdays, as well as live music on both nights.
The Matchbox sign is still on the building at the old location. The landlord for that building couldn’t be reached for comment.
