Lawrence’s The Wagon Wheel makes list of ‘33 Best College Bars’

Rock Chalk, Jayhawks: Lawrence’s The Wagon Wheel has been named one of the 33 Best College Bars in America by the lifestyle website Thrillist.

The crimson and blue dive known to locals as “The Wheel” sits on the east slope of Mount Oread at 507 W. 14th St. According to Thrillist, The Wheel has “everything a Kansas student needs in one place: Cheap drinks, lots of pizza and tradition out the wazoo.”

One of The Wheel’s most delicious traditions is the Wang Burger, a surefire hangover cure topped with melty cheese, bacon and a fried egg. The bar is also known for its $2.25 slices of pizza, served daily from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The Wheel is a popular spot for both current students and alumni: Famous former students Rob Riggle, Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid have been spotted there in recent months.

If you go this weekend for graduation, don’t forget to bring dollars or a debit card — The Wheel is a cash-only bar, but there’s an ATM on site.
