(June 15-23) provides abundant opportunities to volunteer at or tour local farms, attend cooking workshops, and engage in conversation with farmers and food experts such as New York Times columnist and food writer

5:30 p.m. Monday (June 17):

Urban Grown Kickoff at Kansas City’s central library. A variety of voices speak about urban farming in our city. No ticket fee, but RSVP required on the library’s website.

5-9 p.m. Tuesday:

host a collaborative evening of food, art and funding for a local urban agriculture project at the City Ice Arts Building, 900 E. 21st St. Tickets ($15) are available online through

Several local farm-to-table restaurants are donating 10 percent of dinner proceeds to Cultivate Kansas City. The list of participating restaurants includes Aixois Bistro, Extra Virgin, Renee Kelly’s Harvest, Story, The Farmhouse, Room 39, The Rieger Hotel Grill Exchange and more. Self-guided tours of urban farms in Kansas City. Tickets are $8 for individuals or $20 for families. Tickets are valid both days, but some sites are open only one day. Many sites will have cooking demos by local chefs, live music and learning activities. There are also bus and bike tours for those who want to go green.
