Brace yourselves, Kansas Citians — highs today are expected to be in the mid-80s (in March? What?).

You may not be prepared for the heat wave, but ice cream chain Dairy Queen’s got you covered.

The fast food joint is offering free ice cream cones today in honor of its 75th anniversary.

Customers can enjoy one small vanilla cone each all day at the following area locations: Blue Springs, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit, Lenexa, North Kansas City, Olathe, Overland Park, Raytown and Shawnee.

If a small cone isn’t enough to fill you up or cool you down, try Chow Town contributor Jasper J. Mirabile Jr.’s recipe for Butterbeer Ice Cream.

This recipe for Butter Pecan Ice Cream comes courtesy of the Louisburg Methodist Church, which served the refreshing treat at a booth at the Louisburg Cider Mill.

If you prefer something a little lighter, this recipe for cannoli gelato might do the trick.

Enjoy your ice-cold treats while you can — the 80-degree weather is expected to take a dip later this week.
