913 | A generation is falling short in learning skilled trades

Because we've owned old, handmade houses -- on both sides of the state line -- requiring professional upkeep, we've accumulated a floating Rolodex of hands-on artisans. Just this fall, the following tradesmen have graced the dusty premises: stone masons (The Rock Stars), carpenters (framers to finishers), electricians, plumbers, roofers, alarm-system installers, painters, a wrought-iron smith, insulation and drywall installers, heating and air-conditioning techs, locksmiths and the odd itinerant handling specific in-between jobs.
