Impromptu get-togethers, children happily running about, friendly chats between neighbors, and countless amenities ideal for gathering. All are telltale signs of a family-friendly community – and Darol Rodrock has carefully designed each of his neighborhoods to nurture just such a dynamic. Darol understands the lasting impact of such a “home” is priceless. He knows he’s building memories for families, and that resonates in every step of planning – down to his choice of builders and the homes they construct.
Tasha Tranbarger and her family have lived for almost 10 years at the Rodrock Development’s Greens of Chapel Creek, located on the third nine of the beautiful Shawnee Golf and Country Club in western Shawnee.
The family has loved how the Greens’ social committee and Moms’ Council have provided amazing events for children and families to participate in. “It’s allowed us to get to know each other better,” Tasha says. “One of our favorite events is the family-friendly annual pig roast and barbeque contest. And we all look forward to the Christmas horse-drawn hayride.”
“When you care about children and their involvement in your neighborhood, you also care about the families and the community,” Tasha continues. “The families we’ve gotten to know are truly what we enjoy the most and why we proudly call the Greens of Chapel Creek home.”

While Lara Slack and her family have only lived in Forest View since July, it didn’t take long for them to discern the Rodrock difference.
“Forest View is such an amazing place to call home,” Lara says. “We knew we wanted to live in a Rodrock community because of the great schools, top-notch amenities, and warm, inviting atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to raise our family, and we’ve already made friends. We know our home will maintain value because of the quality of construction, pride in ownership, and amazing maintenance provided by Rodrock.”
But the best part of Forest View is definitely the forest, Lara continues. “Our son can watch deer grazing in the backyard while he eats breakfast, but since we’re so close to freeway access, we still have a short commute. The waterfall is certainly eye catching, and the pool and splash pad are a great way to beat the summer heat!”
Still, for Dawn Stutzman and her family, who relocated from Florida, a move meant rebuilding their family’s sense of community from the ground up. While her husband had lived in Kansas City some 17 years before, the amount of growth in the area meant the couple wanted to ensure they choose the perfect location for their family, including their 6-year-old twins.
“Education and family were the most important factors for us when we chose to relocate,” Dawn recalls. “I first looked at Stonebridge Trails and immediately loved it; there was such a great feeling of community. I remember meeting with the knowledgeable sales agent, who was happy to show us the many features of the neighborhood: large lot sizes, the beautiful parks, tennis and basketball courts, and a path for bicycles and walking. And we loved the zero-entry pool and well equipped clubhouse, which is available for parties and family events.”
Another blessing has been the Moms’ Council, which organizes festivities throughout the year. “The Easter Egg Hunt is fun for all ages and this was the first event we took the twins to,” Dawn says. “We met so many wonderful neighbors, who’ve fast become lifelong friends.”
Among the family’s favorite events include the Fourth of July bicycle parade, end-of-summer movie with ice-cream social, and Halloween costume parade. “Last Christmas my husband and I organized Christmas carols with hot chocolate and cookies in the club house and had a large turn-out,” Dawn says. “We’re looking forward to this year, as the neighborhood has grown so much since we moved in.”
One of the Stutzman’s neighbors organizes a meet-and-greet for new homeowners on a regular basis, providing information on the local area and all the many amenities, including excellent schools, nearby hospitals, and shopping. This year, the Stutzman family decided, along with neighbors, to hold an end-of-summer block party.
Built-in family-friendly activities, pools, parks, and other favorite amenities, and thoughtful planning make a world of difference to Rodrock Development families.
“Looking around seeing everyone having a great time making new friends, kids playing, good food, laughter filling the night’s air,” Dawn says, “I knew we’d found the right place to call home!”
