ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A former cable news pundit who appeared on Fox News claiming to be a CIA officer has pleaded guilty to federal fraud charges.
Wayne Simmons, 62, of Annapolis, Maryland, admitted Friday that he lied about his credentials to obtain work with government contractors, but he is still refusing to say that his CIA career is a fabrication.
Prosecutors say Simmons lied about having a 27-year career with the CIA as an “Outside Paramilitary Special Operations” officer and that Simmons had no connection whatsoever to the CIA.
Simmons and his lawyer said after Friday’s hearing in Virginia that the CIA simply won’t acknowledge the work he did.
