Eight-year-old Alli Koepkey of Blue Springs will appear Friday on the “Steve Harvey” show to be feted for her “acts of kindness.”

Alli and her mother, Ashley, will tell the story of how Alli helped to make last holiday season much happier for 24 families living at an area motel. Alli raised money and collected toys for the families, which included 36 children.

The show, taped earlier, will air at 3 p.m. on KMBC-TV, Channel 9.

On the show, Harvey surprises the Koepkey family with a trip to Hawaii and provides a gift card for each of the hotel families. A few of the families also appear on the show’s Chicago stage to thank Alli in person.

Ashley Koepkey said the most touching part of the show is hearing the stories of how the families ended up living month-to-month at the motel. They are working families, she said, and all but one of the 24 are two-parent families, she said.

“We hadn’t heard those stories before,” she said. “I was pretty much crying the whole time.”

Now the Koepkeys have made friends with a couple of the families and the kids play together, Ashley said.

And what about that upcoming five-day, four-night trip to Hawaii?

“We’re pretty stoked about it,” Ashley said.
