Pig & Finch opens in Leawood’s Park Place

Jimmy Lynch’s second restaurant in Leawood’s Park Place is now open, and a third is coming. Lynch has taken the former Trezo Vino spot for his new Pig Finch, an “American-style gastropub.”

Pig Finch, at 11570 Ash St., has menu items influenced by French and English cuisines. It offers “bar snacks” such as pretzel bites with ale cheese sauce, Maytag blue cheese potato chips with blue cheese cream and chives, and almond bacon brittle.

“Plates” include white beans and ham with corn bread, potato gnocchi with mushroom truffle cream sauce, and braised pork belly with creamy lentils, kale, poached egg and balsamic syrup. Entrees include duck breast cassoulet, stout marinated flat iron steak and braised lamb shank. Also on the menu are such specialties as flatbreads, chicken liver mousse and buffalo frog legs.

Pig Finch also offers weekend brunch, weekend dinner specials and weekday happy hour specials.

Pig Finch has a separate bar area in front, along with an open kitchen and a “community table” seating up to 18 people in the dining room.

Lynch also has 801 Chophouse in Park Place and plans to open his first 801 Fish there in mid-May.

Music on Grand

An East Crossroads spot that has housed a variety of businesses is about to get something new — a bar and live music venue.

The American Social, at 1813 Grand Blvd., will open in at least two phases. The first, on the second floor, will be called the Tank Room at the American Social and have piano players and acoustic artists. It is scheduled to open in March.

The main floor will be the American Social and have a Victorian decor. Details are still being worked out by business partners Dustin Racen and Chadwick Veach.

Racen also owns Fountain Town Media, a video production company also based in the East Crossroads, and Veach has worked at venues in the Power Light District. Racen and Veach also have played in bands together.

Beaumont Club suit

JFJ Real Estate Limited Partnership has filed a lawsuit to evict the Beaumont Club, a live-music mainstay in Westport.

The suit, filed Tuesday in the Associate Circuit Court of Jackson County, is against 4050 Pennsylvania Partners, doing business as the Beaumont Club at 4050 Pennsylvania Ave., and its five partners.

The landlord says the dance club and entertainment complex owed $199,828 in back rent as of Nov. 19, 2012, attorney fees and other costs and is asking to take possession of the property.

The landlord declined to comment, as did one of the partners in 4050 Pennsylvania Partners. The other partners could not be reached for comment.

Northland food options

The Northland is getting several new restaurants.

• Dominic’s Fast Italian is scheduled to open at 6209 N.W. 63rd Terrace in early February. It will serve pasta, sandwiches, salads, pizzas and calzones.

• The owner of Milbourn’s Family Restaurant in Faucett, Mo., plans to open Milbourn’s Food Drink Co. at 6409 N. Cosby Ave., in early March. The space formerly house Mary Ann’s Trattoria. Milbourn’s will offer “Midwestern” cuisine, including tenderloins, country fried steak, pasta and daily specials such as prime rib and catfish. It also will have a Sunday brunch.

• Cisco’s Cantina, a locally owned Mexican restaurant, is now open at 10235 N. Oak Trafficway, serving lunch and dinner daily. Maggie’s Cantina had operated in the spot.

New to the Plaza

Athleta, a women’s athletic retailer, plans a spring opening on the Country Club Plaza.

The chain plans to open a 4,757-square-foot store at 429 W. 47th St. (between Broadway and Pennsylvania Avenue, next to Moosejaw). Guess was in the spot but closed recently.

Athleta was founded in 1998 and acquired by Gap in 2008. It doesn’t have any other stores in Missouri or Kansas.

Quick bite

The Saxton Group of Dallas has purchased the Lee’s Summit McAlister’s Deli, as well as one in Lawrence and one in St. Joseph.

It also plans to open another area location by the end of 2013 and as many as 10 restaurants in the next three to five years.

The company owns about 50 McAlister’s Deli operations regionally.
