Bad hair days
First Hugh Jackman looked all scruffy in a beard on Sunday night’s Tony Awards. Two days later he had his head shaved and beard mangled for his role as Blackbeard in the upcoming movie “Pan.” We have one word for it: Argh! Jackman posted the photo of his new bald look on Instagram, noting “Blackbeard is born. #PAN.” The movie, which also stars Garrett Hedlund as Captain Hook, Amanda Seyfried and Rooney Mara, tells the origin story of Peter Pan. It’s expected to hit theaters in July 2015.
Good video games often make bad movies (we’re talking to you, Super Mario Bros.). Undeterred, Sega and Sony Pictures have a deal to make a hybrid live-action/computer-generated Sonic the Hedgehog movie, says Deadline.com. Actually, not just one movie, but one every year based on the little blue guy and other characters, especially evil nemesis Dr. Eggman.
Ain’t no passing craze
After sequels, a 3-D re-release and a Broadway musical, “The Lion King” will expand its kingdom again, says The Wrap. “The Lion Guard” will debut as a TV movie in fall 2015, followed by a series on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior in early 2016. The shows follow Kion, the second-born son of Simba and Nala, who leads a group that protects the Pride Lands. Think of it as the never-ending circle of life.
Here’s the new poster for the newly titled “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water,” due next February. Doesn’t it crack you up?
Even though she appeared to have died in the first “Avatar,” Sigourney Weaver will return for all three sequels, says director James Cameron. She joins Stephen Lang (who met a similar fate), Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.
Guillermo del Toro tells BuzzFeed he has teamed up with Zak Penn (“X-Men: The Last Stand”) on the script for a “Pacific Rim” sequel. Did anyone ask for that?
