After the sands of Afghanistan will come the snows of New York City in “A Very Murray Christmas,” an all-star Netflix holiday special that begins streaming Dec. 4. Bill Murray reteams with “Rock the Kasbah” writer Mitch Glazer and his “Lost in Translation” director, Sofia Coppola, for this homage to variety shows.
Murray plays himself, worrying that none of his guests will show up in a snowstorm. But they don’t disappoint, and he sings and jokes with the likes of George Clooney, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler, Paul Shaffer, Michael Cera, Rashida Jones, Maya Rudolph, Miley Cyrus and more.
Murray tells Indiewire he was surprised at the talents of Cyrus, who performs a “Let It Snow” duet: “She can really sing! I thought she was a knucklehead crazy girl you could go on a road trip with who maybe didn’t have I.D. She floored everybody, Paul Shaffer and George Clooney. I don’t want to hear any more badmouthing of Miley Cyrus. She’s a pro.”
