At the core of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and the other Marvel films are the Infinity Stones, six gems controlling time, space, mind, reality, power and the soul. All of this presumably leads into “Avengers: The Infinity War,” coming in two parts in 2018 and 2019. Here’s what we’ve seen so far:
THE SPACE STONE
Also known as the Tesseract, this space-warping gem is first seen in cube form in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” and it opens a hole in the sky above New York in “Avengers.”
The red goop that possesses Jane Foster in “Thor: The Dark World” is one of the stones, but its powers have not been fully revealed.
THE POWER STONE
The purple gem coveted by Ronan the Accuser in “Guardians of the Galaxy” contains so much power it kills him. Star-Lord and the gang turn it over to the Nova Corps for safekeeping.
THE MIND STONE
It’s part of Loki’s staff in the two “Avengers” films. Evil Hydra has used it to grant Pietro Maximoff super-speed and Wanda Maximoff telekinesis and telepathy. In “Age of Ultron,” the good guys want it back.
All of the gems fit in a “gauntlet” possessed by the big purple pain in the posterior, Thanos, previously seen in “Avengers” and “Guardians.” Once he possesses all the stones, he will have the power to rule the universe. Mwa-ha-ha.
