“Deepwater Horizon”

Opens at 7 p.m. Thursday

Mark Wahlberg stars in director Peter Berg’s dramatization of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico disaster and the men and women who acted heroically in its wake. Based on the New York Times’ article “Deepwater Horizon’s Final Hours.” Rated PG-13. Time: 1:47.

A story set on the offshore drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, which exploded during April 2010 and created the worst oil spill in U.S. history. The film stars Dylan O'Brien, Mark Wahlberg and Kurt Russell.

 

“Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”

“Queen of Katwe”

Mira Nair (“Monsoon Wedding,” “Salaam Bombay!”) directs this fact-based drama about a girl from rural Uganda who, with the help of a missionary (David Oyelowo), became a world-class chess player. Her mom is played by Lupita Nyong’o in the flesh (we last saw her as Maz Kanata in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”). Rated PG. Time: 2:04.
