Overland Park teachers tie the knot with an elegant interfaith ceremony

Nikki and Wes Bowers met in early 2014, and once they started talking, they “just never stopped,” Nikki says.

The Bowerses, both teachers who live in Overland Park, married June 11 in an interfaith ceremony at the Hilton President Kansas City, 1329 Baltimore.

Wes, 25, proposed to Nikki, 26, in March 2015, when he took her completely by surprise on a walk at a trail by his house. He got down on one knee and presented her with a princess cut engagement ring with a diamond halo.

Planning their traditional, elegant ceremony and reception was a joint effort.

“We both went to most of the wedding appointments and agreed on everything as a couple,” Nikki says.

Since Nikki and Wes come from different faith backgrounds, they decided to combine traditions in an interfaith ceremony. Nikki is Jewish and Wes is Christian, so the ceremony was presided over by a rabbi and a pastor.

“We wanted to incorporate both religions on our wedding day,” Nikki says.

“It was a nice gesture for both of our families and our history.”
