Justin Bieber’s fall from his fans’ grace: The 7 times we saw it coming

Once the darling of tweens everywhere, Justin Bieber has incited a rebellion from his fans thanks to some choice words on his (RIP) Instagram.

The pop star made headlines Monday when he commented on his own photo with new girlfriend Sofia Richie (the daughter of singer Lionel), calling out his fans for rude comments.

“If you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people I like,” he wrote, threatening to make his Instagram private if the comments didn’t stop.

Things really got heated when Bieber’s ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez commented on the picture, saying “Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you. They were there for you before anyone.”

If it wasn’t dramatic enough, Bieber responded: “It’s funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way.”

Bieber’s fans — many of whom believed he had mistreated Gomez when he was her boyfriend — turned on the pop star, inspiring the hashtag #SelenaEndedJustinParty. It certainly didn’t help that Gomez alluded to Bieber’s cheating nature in another comment.

In response to the Instagram drama, Bieber deleted his account early Tuesday morning. At 1:42 a.m., Gomez cryptically posted to her Snapchat: “What I said was selfish and pointless.”

Regardless, this seemed to be the last straw for Beliebers, who defected from the fanbase in droves Tuesday with the hashtag #JustinDeactivatedParty. People tweeted the pop star had mistreated his fans for the last time.

While Bieber hasn’t addressed the deleted account, his girlfriend Richie tweeted a shout-out to Beliebers early Monday morning before the account was deleted.

So how did the star, who had 77.8 million Instagram followers and has charted eight Billboard Top 10 hits, go from adored to despised? Turns out it’s been a long time coming.

1. His DUI charge in 2014

Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach, Fla. on Jan. 23, 2014, after he drag-raced in a rented Lamborghini at 4 a.m., NBC Miami reported. He didn’t have a valid license and failed a field sobriety test, resulting in the DUI charge. He admitted to a police officer he was taking prescription antidepressants and had smoked marijuana.

Despite the charge, he was all smiles in his mugshot.

2. The 2014 egging incident

In the same month, Bieber allegedly threw eggs at his neighbor’s home in Calabasas, Calif. Although he pleaded no contest to the vandalism charge that following July, he paid more than $80,000 in restitution, the Los Angeles Times reported. He also completed anger management classes and five days of community service.

The incident was allegedly the result of several disagreements with neighbors over parties held at his home and fast cars driven on the street. Bieber later sold the house to Khloe Kardashian.

3. Cancelling his meet and greets

In another Instagram drama fest, Bieber announced he was canceling the fan meet and greets for his 2016 Purpose World Tour — only a month after it started.

“I enjoy meeting such incredible people but I end up feeling drained and filled with so much of other people’s spiritual energy that I end up so drained and unhappy,” he posted on Instagram.

At the time, fans seemed to understand, supporting him with the hashtag #WeAreHereForYouJustin. Fans who purchased meet and greets received full refunds.

4. Walking out in the middle of a performance

During a performance in Oslo, Norway, Bieber pitched a fit and stormed offstage after a fan spilled something on stage in October 2015. When Bieber tried to clean it up, fans blocked him and he quickly became frustrated, saying “What are you doing. I said stop it...I’m trying to wipe the floor give me a second.”

The video obtained by TMZ shows him giving up, walking away and saying, “Never mind. I’m done. I’m not doing the show.”

Less than 24 hours earlier, Bieber had walked off a radio show. He later posted a statement, claiming he’d had a rough week with no sleep.

5. When he was sued by a former neighbor for assault

It seems Bieber was the neighbor from hell when he lived in Calabasas. The same former neighbor who sued for vandalism again sued the pop star in March for $25,000 in damages, claiming Bieber spit in his face and terrorized his family with loud parties, drug use and aggressive driving.

The lawsuit alleged Bieber’s bodyguards hurled anti-Semitic insults at the family and that the singer’s fans targeted the family with threats and ridiculing messages.

6. Getting kicked out of Coachella

The pop star refused to leave the artist entrance at Drake’s performance at the 2015 festival, even when told the area was full and his group couldn’t be accommodated.

He claimed to be invited by Drake and said standing in a big crowd would be too dangerous for him. Shortly after, security approached the singer and put him in a choke hold, seen in a video obtained by TMZ.

7. His ongoing feud with Orlando Bloom

In July 2014, Bieber almost got a face full of Bloom’s fist after an argument about — what else? — a woman.

When Bieber walked by Bloom’s table, the actor refused to shake Bieber’s hand. So, Bieber reportedly made a rude comment about Bloom’s ex, Miranda Kerr (whom Bieber had been caught flirting with in 2012). After the comment, Bloom tried to punch him.

The two celebrities have had bad blood between them ever since — and even were victims (?) of a nude photo leak last week.

Although Bieber has been forgiven time after time, today’s incident seems to be the last straw for many.

Can he recover from the bad press like he has before? Never say never.
