Day 2 of Big Slick Celebrity Weekend started a bit late Saturday morning.
The crowd gathered for the red carpet arrival outside Pinstripes in Overland Park’s Prairie Fire shopping center may have assumed that these Hollywood folks were sleeping off their binge of softball and celebrating at Kauffman Stadium on Friday. But actually, they were busy visiting the kids at the Cancer Center at Children’s Mercy, which has benefited from seven years of Big Slick fundraising.
Friday’s events — a press conference at Children’s Mercy and the softball game — are designed to get publicity for the fundraiser. Saturday is about raising money: a bowling tournament at Pinstripes in the morning and auction at Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland Saturday night.

But the red carpet leading up to the bowling tournament was free and open to anyone.
At last, leading off the procession were some of the Children’s Mercy patients, all wearing personalized Kansas City Royals jerseys.
And then came celebrity after celebrity, in quick and glorious succession:
It should be noted that intern Jennifer Aldrich, who did this next tweet, is from Iowa:
Actress Olivia Wilde, who is expecting her second child with her fiance, Big Slick host Jason Sudeikis, was nowhere to be found in Friday’s heat at Kauffman Stadium. But in the shade and morning breeze Saturday morning, she strolled the red carpet. Not sure where Jason was, though …
Seems like some of the most handsome celebrities are the ones hiding behind beards …
And there’s this:
Big Slick continues Saturday night with an auction at Arvest Bank Theater at The Midland, which is sold out.
