Erica Parish probably thought she’d walk away from FanFest with photos of the World Series trophy, maybe a few autographs or new Royals gear.
But she never thought she’d leave with a fiance.
Parish and her boyfriend of one year, Mathew Graham, were posing for a photo by the World Series trophy when suddenly, Graham got down on one knee.
“We went on stage to take a picture with the trophy, and they told us to get closer together,” Graham said. “So I saw the perfect moment to pull the ring out of my pocket and ask Erica Parish to be my wife.”

Parish was blindsided by the gesture.
“He doesn’t do these things, he isn’t a planner,” she said.
Graham admitted that although he’s had the engagement ring for a month, his ideas haven’t gone as planned.
“I’ve had a lot of plans, and it finally came to the point where I said, ‘I’ve just got to wing it,’ ” Graham said.
When Graham revealed how long he’d been carrying the ring on him, Parish was shocked again.
“Are you serious?” she said. “I’m glad I didn’t check on it.”
Graham and Parish met in high school and went on just one date, but they reunited last year.
“The rest is history,” Graham said.
The faithful Royals fans live in Wichita, but they spent most of last season watching the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
“Last season was such a great memory for us,” Graham said. “Those guys are magic. I believe we are, too.”
