While on vacation in Europe, former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam and his longtime boyfriend Vito Cammisano got engaged, according to TMZ.
The couple, who met at the University of Missouri, were in Rome when the proposal took place, though it’s not clear who popped the question.
“People, he is officially off the market!!!!!” a friend of Cammisano’s posted on Twitter. “My beautiful friend @vitcamm is getting married!!!!!!!”
Cammisano, who has ties to the Kansas City area, graduated from Rockhurst High School where he belonged to the championship swim team.

Both Sam and Cammisano were student athletes at Mizzou; Cammisano belonged to the swim team and the two crossed paths frequently on campus.
Sam recently celebrated a birthday in Italy, one of the many stops the pair has made while on vacation since late December.
Sam became the first openly gay player in the NFL after being taken in the seventh round of the 2014 draft by the Saint Louis Rams.
After Sam was cut from the Rams, he joined the Dallas Cowboys practice squad before being waived in October.
