Friends of Richard Simmons have been concerned about his welfare because the long-time exercise guru hasn’t been seen in public for nearly a year.

Now new alarms are going off because Simmons, apparently a big Christmas fan, hasn’t decorated his home for the holidays.

TMZ, which has been following the mystery for weeks, reports that there are no Christmas decorations at his Hollywood Hills home and, oddly, a housekeeper has been keeping people from entering the house.

The last time anyone saw or heard from him was in January or February of 2013. His rep has told TMZ that the creator of the “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” workouts has been depressed over a knee injury.

But the website also reported in November that Simmons, 66, was left emotionally devastated by the death of his beloved Dalmatian, Hattie, who reportedly died last year around the last time anyone saw him.

Friends see the fact that he didn’t the funeral of his close friend, Joan Rivers, in September as a sign that something is seriously wrong.

“There is no way he wouldn’t have gone to her funeral if he was O.K.,” one friend told gossip columnist Perez Hilton.

One of his last public appearances was with Chelsea Handler on her late-night stalk show, “Chelsea Lately,” in February 2013 where Simmons was his usual manic, comically unhinged self. And it was just too much for Handler to handle.

At one point, after he coaxed Handler to kiss him, Handler told him, “Seriously, you have to calm down and shut the f**k up. Just calm down, I want to help promote your DVD and everything. So you have to just get it together, girl.”

Sigh. We could all use a little Richard Simmons right now.
