Gabe the Goldren Retriever had a big job over the weekend.

Instead of chasing squirrels or barking at the mail man, this canine served as the best man in his owner’s wedding.

His groom, Justin Lansford, serves as a paratrooper in Afghanistan when he lost his leg in an IED explosion in 2012, according to Yahoo.

When Lansford returned home to recover, he was paired with a dog who would become more than a pet.

Gabe was two years old when he graduated from the Warrior Canine Connection, a nonprofit that pairs dogs with veterans to improve their symptoms from post traumatic stres disorder.

And now, he’s proven how loyal and trustworthy he is by standing by Lansford when he married his longtime girlfriend, Carol Balmes, on Saturday.

The pictures say it all. Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Lansford, and to Gabe for being man’s best man.
