Forget the soul patrol sound.
, winner of the fifth season of "American Idol," is going a little bit country with his new single, "Seven Mile Breakdown."
"This record and the song really represent who I am as an artist - the country-rock and blues side of me," Hicks told Popeater.com. "I'm from Alabama, so there is definitely some country origins in my background, both musically and personally."
(Hicks is currently starring in the touring production of Broadway's "Grease.")
His 2006 self-titled debut album sold more than a million copies. His sophomore album, "The Distance," was released last month on his own label, Modern Whomp Records, after he parted ways with Arista Records. "Seven Mile Breakdown" is the CD's second single.
He calls the single's video "a high energy, rocking video with a down home feel to it. I cannot wait for the fans to see it."
