Chanel movie poster gets French all hot and bothered

everyone

smoked in France.

A poster for the upcoming biopic “Coco Avant Chanel,” showing actress

Audrey Tautou

holding a lit cigarette, has been banned from French buses and trains because it breaks France’s strict laws banning the depiction of smoking in advertising.

The transportation authority deemed the ad “unhealthy and inappropriate.”

(

Coco Chanel

herself, legendary for smoking up to 50 cigarettes a day, would probably sniff at the ban. Then light up another.)

The movie’s producers had to swap out the poster for one that didn’t include a cigarette, and they didn’t like having to do it.

Said one Warner France spokesman: “For us, the real poster is where Coco Chanel is smoking in a natural pose that translates her strong personality and her modernity.”

Well,

cough, cough

, said.
