The comedian offered a public apology to the teen star Tuesday night on the "Tonight Show with
" after a hailstorm of criticism over jokes he made about her.
On his weekend satellite radio show, Foxx joked that Cyrus should "make a sex tape and grow up," or "Get like
and do some heroin."
"I am a comedian, and you guys know that whatever I say, I don't mean any of it," he told Leno. "And sometimes, as comedians, as we do, we go a little bit too far ... I just want to say, I apologize for what I said. I didn't mean it maliciously."
He looked into the camera and said, "Miley, I apologize, so I'll call you. I got a daughter too, so I completely understand."
Foxx's new film, "The Soloist," goes up this weekend against the current No. 1 movie, which just happens to be Miley's Hannah Montana movie.
