Anyone else get a little queasy last week at the picture of what looked like a deep-fried rat that a California man said he was served at a KFC? Well, the company says it wasn’t a rodent after all. Good to know.
The photo that Devorise Dixon posted on his Facebook page promptly went viral.
“I went to KFC and (bought) a 3 (piece) chicken tender! As I bit into a piece of it noticed it was very hard/touch and rubbery! Which sent this deep chill throughout my body. I looked down at it and saw it was a cooked rat! Made me feel sick!” he wrote.
As the photo took the Internet by storm, KFC’s reps explained to media outlets that their chicken tenders often vary in size and shape, implying that some might even look like they have rat tails like the one in Dixon’s pic.
Late last week Dixon’s attorney reportedly turned over the mysterious treat to KFC, which had an independent lab test it, “and the results officially confirmed what KFC knew all along – the product was chicken and not a rat as he claimed,” the company tells ABC News in a statement.
Not so fast, KFC, writes Yahoo’s Brad Reed.
“Just because KFC has been cleared of serving up a deep-fried rat doesn’t mean it’s innocent of all crimes against human health,” Reed opines. “Let’s not forget this is the same company that came up with the utterly revolting Double Down Dog, which needs no rats embedded inside to be disgusting.”
