Like they do at the Oscars, celebrities light up the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. At this year’s opening ceremony on Wednesday, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o won accolades.
Nyong’o wore a pleated custom Gucci gown with a mini capelet that encouraged her to take more than a few twirls for the cameras. In a post on Instagram, Nyong’o described the gown’s bright hue as “grasshopper green.” (The “NseneneSeason” she refers to is “grasshopper” season in Uganda.)
Stargazing awards its best-dressed honor of the night to Naomi Watts.

Naomi Watts wore a silvery gown with a plunging neckline, feathered skirt and dramatic cut-out back by Elie Saab Couture.
The dress had pockets. We love pockets in gowns! Watts looked super-cool with her hands elegantly tucked away as she posed for photos.
Other Hollywood stars who participated in the fashion parade, according to Harper’s Bazaar and other news outlets:
▪ Sienna Miller wore a sleek, navy, one-shouldered gown by Balmain.
▪ Natalie Portman also wore a slim column of a dress. Hers was lipstick red by Dior. Portman is currently the face of Miss Dior fragrance.
▪ Julianne Moore can shrug off critics who slam her for the oversized shoulders on her Armani Privé gown.
French actress and former Victoria’s Secret model Laetitia Casta showed up in feathers, too, only hers were golden and oversized and decorated a sheer cape by Erik Halley that she wore over a floral gown. Just call it superhero chic.
Models Karlie Kloss, Bar Refaeli and Doutzen Kroes must have consulted with one another before Wednesday – they all showed up wearing white.
