We have a name! Many names, actually.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — otherwise known to the world as Prince William and his wife, Kate — had a baby girl Saturday morning and have just announced her name: Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
The girl’s name pays tribute to a great many people, not the least of which is William’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
According to The Telegraph, Charlotte is the feminine form of “Charles” (William’s father’s name) and means “petite.” Elizabeth is the name of the queen, William’s grandmother. There are also Charlottes in both William’s and Kate’s lineages. It is also Kate’s sister’s, Pippa Middleton’s, middle name.
Of course, once news broke, “Charlotte Elizabeth Diana” was the top trending item on Twitter. Many were fans.
