Fans of Chris Pratt and Anna Faris are heartbroken that the two are breaking up after eight years of marriage.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” star posted a joint statement to his Facebook page on Sunday. Faris, currently starring in the CBS hit sitcom “Mom,” posted it on her social media accounts, too.
“Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed,” the statement read.
“Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another. Chris Pratt and Anna Faris.”
The announcement quickly became a trending topic on Twitter as fans took to social media to express shock, sadness and disbelief over the news.
Not them, Twitter cried collectively, taking the news very personally.
This comment, left on Pratt’s Facebook page, captured a general sentiment:
E! News detailed the anatomy of this Hollywood relationship. The two met in 2007 on the set of the comedy “Take Me Home Tonight.”
“It was like magnets. Our personalities meshed. She was a goofball. She liked to have fun. It was impossible to offend her. I just remember thinking, ‘Wow, in another life, that’s who I want to be with — we would be so good together, I just know it,’” Pratt told Elle in 2015.
Faris was married to actor Ben Indra at the time.
“In retrospect, they both had one foot out the door for a long time. We were friends first, but she left her husband at the end of the movie, and we started dating when we were back in L.A. So, we were friends, and I was there for her,” Pratt said.
“And we had just played love interests, so we had this tight bond spending so much time and spending nights in Phoenix, but we never crossed the line. But we were, I think, developing feelings for each other at the time, you know? The day that she told me she was leaving her husband, I knew that I was going to marry her.”
They got married in Bali on July 9, 2009. Pratt’s big-screen success took off with roles in “Jurassic World,” “The Lego Movie,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Zero Dark Thirty.” Faris landed a leading role in “Mom.”
They had a son, Jack Pratt, in August 2012. Jack was born prematurely and spent a month in neonatal intensive care.
The three were photographed together in April when Pratt received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Pratt and Faris spoke lovingly of each other.
She described her husband as “tough, resilient, witty and scrappy and the kind of person that can make a really bad situation good.”
He told her: “You have my heart, my dedication, my trust. Without you, none of this means anything.”
Pratt told Entertainment Weekly in 2015 the couple planned to move back to their home state of Washington when Faris was finished with “Mom.” Pratt said he didn’t want to raise their son in Los Angeles and wanted to give him “some normalcy” away from Hollywood.
In a podcast last year Faris talked about how the two grappled with being a couple in the spotlight, mentioning “hurtful” tabloid rumors about a rumored strained relationship.
Despondent fans continued to tweet about the break-up on Monday.
