We’ve never known Tom Cruise to shy away from a dangerous stunt. But to dangle off the side of an airplane? You’ve got to see it to believe it.

The full trailer for “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” – the fifth installment of the franchise – debuted on Monday showing the awe-inspiring stunt.

That’s really him, strapped to the outside of an Airbus A400.

“I’ve often sat on airplanes, looked out and thought what it would be like out there on the wing. This is the (stuff) I think about,” he told USA Today.

“That’s me the whole time. I was standing right over the tires when we landed. It’s nerve-racking for everyone else, but pretty exciting for me.”

Cruise, as Ethan Hunt, is joined again by Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg. Rebecca Ferguson (“The White Queen”) joins the gang as a new female ally.

The “rogue nation” of the movie’s title is a syndicate made up of assassins, an anti-Impossible Mission Force. Cruise and the others get together, perhaps one last time, to fight the bad guys.

Director Christopher McQuarrie tells USA Today that he realized the high stakes of following up the successful “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” in which Cruise climbed Dubai’s Burj Khalifa skyscraper.

“We knew anything we did was going to be compared with the Burj. But it’s not like you could wait for someone to build an even taller building. We keep pushing the envelope,” he said.

Whew.

Envelope. Pushed.

The movie hits theaters July 31. But from today through Friday, Paramount is allowing folks who pre-order tickets on Fandango or Movietickets.com to download a free HD digital copy of any of the other movies in the franchise.
