Two newcomers join a barbecue-loving Big Slick veteran in latest announcements

Martin Starr of HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” this summer’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” — and a few previous Big Slick Celebrity Weekends — joins Jill Martin of the “Today” show and Randy Flagler of NBC’s “Chicago Fire” in the latest round of guests announced for the 2017 edition of the fundraiser.

Starr may be best known for playing “Silicon Valley’s” Gilfoyle, a computer programmer and self-proclaimed Satan worshipper. But perhaps more important to Kansas Citians, he co-starred with Big Slick host Paul Rudd in 2007’s “Knocked Up” and host Jason Sudeikis in 2011’s “A Good Old Fashioned Orgy.”

And, at least according to this video from a previous Big Slick game at Kauffman Stadium, he loves Kansas City barbecue.

This will be the first Big Slick weekend for Martin and Flagler.

Big Slick is announcing three celebrity guests every weekday through June 16 for a total of 27. Things kicked off last week with the announcement of funny guys Weird Al Yankovic, Johnny Knoxville and CNN’s Jake Tapper. Day 2: actors Kevin Pollak, Aisha Tyler and Jermaine Fowler. Day 3: Fox sportscaster Curt Menefee and actors Will Forte and Joe Lo Truglio. Day 4: actors James Marsden and Samm Levine and magician Blake Vogt. On Monday: actor and Shawnee Mission South grad David Dastmalchian, Blue Springs native and “American Idol” winner David Cook and actor/writer/director David Wain.

They’ll join hometown hosts Rudd, Sudeikis, Rob Riggle, Eric Stonestreet and David Koechner to raise money for the Cancer Center at Children’s Mercy hospital.

This year’s celebrity softball game starts at 5 p.m. June 23 at Kauffman Stadium. On June 24: a red carpet event, block party and bowling tournament at 8:30 a.m. at Pinstripes in Prairiefire and a sold-out silent auction and party at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland that night.
