It’s the day of the Davids as actor David Dastmalchian, “American Idol” winner David Cook and actor/director/writer David Wain join the list of big-name guests for Big Slick Celebrity Weekend 2017.
Dastmalchian, 33, a Shawnee Mission South grad who got his big break with a role in “The Dark Knight” in 2008, starred alongside Big Slick host Paul Rudd in 2015’s Marvel action flick “Ant-Man” and will return for next year’s sequel. He’s also featured in Fox’s “Gotham,” CW’s “The Flash” and most recently in Showtime’s “Twin Peaks” reboot as a Las Vegas casino pit boss.
Three of the best-known films written and directed by Wain, 47, have starred Rudd: “Role Models,” “Wanderlust” and “Wet Hot American Summer.”

Cook, 34, is a platinum-selling rock artist raised in Blue Springs who shot to stardom after winning the seventh season of “American Idol.” He’s the only one of this batch of three celebs to have appeared at Big Slick before. Cook was a crowd favorite at last year’s celebrity softball game, wearing a “Star Wars” Chewbacca mask in left field, hitting a home run and taking time to toss some cold water bottles to fans in the stands.
Big Slick is announcing three celebrity guests every weekday through June 16 for a total of 27. Things kicked off Tuesday with the announcement of funny guys Weird Al Yankovic, Johnny Knoxville and CNN’s Jake Tapper. On Wednesday: actors Kevin Pollak, Aisha Tyler and Jermaine Fowler. On Thursday: Fox sportscaster Curt Menefee and actors Will Forte and Joe Lo Truglio. On Friday: actors James Marsden and Samm Levine and magician Blake Vogt.
They’ll join hometown hosts Rudd, Rob Riggle, Jason Sudeikis, Eric Stonestreet and David Koechner to raise money for the Cancer Center at Children’s Mercy hospital.
This year’s celebrity softball game starts at 5 p.m. June 23 at Kauffman Stadium. On June 24: a red carpet event, block party and bowling tournament at 8:30 a.m. at Pinstripes in Prairiefire and a sold-out silent auction and party at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland that night.
