C-SPAN gets pranked by a ‘Fresh Prince’

No, that wasn’t Will Smith who called into C-SPAN on Wednesday.
No, that wasn’t Will Smith who called into C-SPAN on Wednesday.

This is the danger of taking live calls from listeners. A caller into C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” show on Wednesday thought it would be funny to quote the lyrics to the theme song of Will Smith’s 1990s TV show, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”

It kind of was.

Callers were asked to share their thoughts on how much influence Congress should have in Iran negotiations.

One particular caller identified himself to the unsuspecting anchor as Jack Strickland from Bel-Air.

But, Strickland clarified, he was originally from Philadelphia, West Philadelphia to be specific.

See where it’s heading?

“I was actually discussing this issue with a friend of mine when I was in Philly; it occurred on a basketball court,” said the caller.

“At some point during the conversation, a couple of guys who were up to no good essentially started causing trouble in my neighborhood.

“I got in one little fight and my mom got scared and said ‘You’re moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air.’”

At that point, C-SPAN cut him off and the anchor kept going as though nothing had happened.

Uncle Phil would be proud of that smooth recovery.
