The Salvation Army South Africa has turned last week’s “The Dress” meme into a powerful domestic abuse awareness campaign.

On Friday it tweeted out a photo of a woman wearing the white-and-gold dress that got so many people riled up last week as they debated its true colors. Was it white and gold, or black and blue?

Here’s the #StopAbuseAgainstWomen message with the photo: “Why is it so hard to see black and blue? One in six women are victims of abuse.”

The message is being met with praise on Twitter. One person tweeted that the campaign is “the only good appropriation of #TheDress.”

We couldn’t agree more. From silly to sublime in one genius stroke.
