On Sunday, the New York Daily News’ cover blasted William Shatner as “Captain Jerk” for not attending Leonard Nimoy’s funeral. Shatner, of course, played Captain James T. Kirk in “Star Trek” and Nimoy played his right-hand crew member, the half-human/half-Vulcan Mr. Spock.

Shatner, in an amazing public relations move, decided not to shy away from the controversy.

He then hosted a touching and personal Q&A on Twitter with fans about Nimoy using the hashtag #LeonardNimoy, which was trending in several cities Sunday. Shatner has more than 2 million followers on his account. Here are some of the most insightful answers.

On fatherhood

On being like Spock

On nicknames

On their friendship

On being divas

Nimoy died of end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at age 83. He had stopped smoking decades ago.
