Kim Kardashian is robbed at gunpoint, people joke about it, others rally around her | The Kansas City Star

Media outlets around the world paint a harrowing picture of what happened to Kim Kardashian early Monday morning in a private apartment in Paris.

According to her Snapchat, around 2:30 a.m. Paris time Kardashian was in her room Facetiming her brother Rob Kardashian and his fiancée, Blac Chyna, congratulating them on their baby shower.

About a half hour later, five men threatened the concierge of the 19th-century luxury residence with a weapon, handcuffed him and forced him to open Kardashian’s private apartment, French officials told CNN.

Two of the men, wearing ski masks and police jackets, entered the room, where they held a gun to her head, tied her hands and feet with tape, and locked her in the bathroom.

“She begged for them to let her live and (said) she has babies at home. Then they wrapped her mouth in tape and put her in the bathtub,” a source told E! News. “She thought they were for sure going to kill her.”

The thieves stole a jewelry box containing $6.7 million worth of jewels and a $4 million ring, police sources told Paris media. They also reportedly took her purse, two cell phones and 1,000 euros.

According to NBC News New York, the five men escaped on bikes. They are still at large.

Kardashian’s children, North, 3, and Saint, 9 months, were not involved in the incident, People reported. She was in town for Paris Fashion Week.

The public got its first hint that something bad had happened when Kardashian’s husband, Kanye West, interrupted his set at the Meadows Music & Arts Festival in Queens, N.Y., Sunday night.

He was performing “Heartless” when he stopped and told fans, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. Family emergency, I have to stop the show.”

A festival rep came on stage about 10 minutes later and said West’s set was canceled and that he had left.

When news of the robbery started getting out, Twitter went into overdrive with snark and sarcasm. Some people didn’t believe the reports of the robbery, suggesting it was like swimmer Ryan Lochte lying about being robbed at gunpoint at the Olympics in Rio.

But Twitter quickly policed itself.

Hollywood celebrities rallied around Kardashian, too.

People reported that Kardashian left the hotel in two vans with a police escort, running red lights through the city on the way to the airport where she boarded a private jet for home.

“She is badly shaken but physically unharmed,” her rep told People.
