Country star Keith Urban will hit the road this summer, and he’ll be opening his Ripcord World Tour at Cricket Wireless Amphitheater in Bonner Springs on June 2, a Thursday. Tickets go on sale on Jan. 29. Brett Eldredge and newcomer Maren Morris will open.
Urban last performed in Kansas City at the Sprint Center on Nov. 9 as part of his Light the Fuse Tour. That was his seventh performance in Kansas City since November 2002, a run that includes stops at the Ameristar Casino and Kemper Arena.
He is putting the finishing touches on “Ripcord,” his 10th studio album, due to be released this year. He recently told Rolling Stone magazine that he’d been working with producers he hadn’t worked with before, including Rick Rubin and Nile Rodgers.
“With Nile, it was the guitar playing that drew me in,” he said. “I had a real simple desire to play with him, to see what kind of fusion we could create together. I’ve got a six-string banjo, and I’ve played along with records Nile played on, and they just paired up beautifully. I wanted to see if we could rhythmically click like that in the studio. So we got into the studio, and he had a guitar and I had a banjo, and we just played to a loop. It was great.”
