KC Record Store Day festivities to include live performance by Shooter Jennings

The 11th annual Record Store Day will be celebrated Saturday at independent record stores all over the U.S., which will be offering thousands of RSD “exclusives.”

Among the list of artists releasing 2018 exclusives and rarities: AC/DC, David Bowie, the Cure, Cypress Hill, Miles Davis, Dr. Dre, Duran Duran, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix, Robyn Hitchcock, Living Colour, Arthur Lee & Love, MC5, Motorhead, the Police, Prince, U2, Taylor Swift and Tom Waits. Here’s a list of what’s happening in stores around Kansas City and in Lawrence on Saturday, including their special events or live music plans.

Brothers Music

5921 Johnson Drive

9 a.m.-7 p.m.

About 100 Record Store Day exclusives have been ordered. Separately, more than 700 rare used records ordered and withheld for RSD will be available along with plenty of freebies and giveaways. DJs will be spinning all day. There will be coffee and doughnuts for early birds and pizza and other beverages for lunch.

Josey Records Kansas City

1814 Oak St.

8 a.m.-10 p.m.

DJs will start spinning at 11 a.m. Live bands will start performing at 4 p.m. Food, including Meshuggah bagels for the early birds, and beverages will be available along with plenty of exclusive Record Store Day releases and special limited-edition vinyl.

Love Garden Sounds

822 Massachusetts St., Lawrence

10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Plenty of Record Store Day exclusive items will be available. Customers will receive a 10 percent store credit for future visits for each $50 spent plus all Love Garden merchandise (T-shirts, hoodies) will be 25 percent off. Numbers will be handed out to those waiting in line before the store opens at 10 a.m. Each person with a number will have access to five items on the exclusive table. After customers with numbers are done, the five-item limit will be lifted.

Mills Record Company

4045 Broadway

7 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday

10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday

RSD will be a two-day celebration at Mills Record Company. Both days will feature live local music, including a performance on Saturday night by the Casket Lottery, who will celebrate the release of a three-LP box set. All the Record Store Day indie vinyl exclusive releases will be available plus more than 3,000 used records chosen for RSD. There will be coffee and doughnuts, swag bags and other giveaways. Also, more than $500 in gift certificates will be awarded.

There will be free food, plenty of giveaways and lots of RSD exclusives.

Live music lineup, starting at 1 p.m.: Eggs on Mars, Jules Sees Miracles, Luther Vincent and Kansas City Beatbox Crew.

Revolution Records

8 a.m.-11 p.m.

Plenty of RSD exclusives will be available plus two hours of live music.

Every Record Store Day title will be priced below retail. Free coffee, juice and doughnuts will be served.

Vinyl Renaissance

9 a.m.-6 p.m.

The big attraction here will be the live performance by Shooter Jennings, who performs Saturday night at the Granada theater in Lawrence. Plenty of Record Store Day exclusives, limited releases, discounts and giveaways will be available.
